Mission: Pangaea (Wrap up)
Location: Deck 578
Timeline: MD 17: 17:00 hrs

After dropping Liam off at the brig, Annora had some other items to take care of during her shift. Once she was done however, she returned to the brig. Both to check up on the Lt, and to get his take on the political climate surrounding Pangaea.

"Afternoon Lieutenant, how are you enjoying our accommodations?"

"I'm liking the staff," Liam quipped grinning at Annora. "Please pull up a chair. Have a seat. Can I get you any coffee, fresh baked scones?" He was joking around of course as there was no replicator but he was determined that the second officers overkill in this matter was not going to bring him down. "So to what do I owe the pleasure?" he asked. She had to have finished her shift now by his calculations. Which meant this was a personal visit.

At least he was in a good mood. Annora pulled up a chair outside the holding cell.
"We do hire only the best for Starbase security. You brought up some interesting points at the meeting earlier. I wanted to get more details on the circumstances surrounding Pangaea. I've looked over the reports, but they only tell half the story."

"I brought up some good, solid points earlier," Liam amended. "For all it got me." He could sense Ryan. His emotions were hard and raw. Livid. Scared, panicked. Desperate. In short a whirling mass. The other man was clearly still close to this deck. Maybe he was in his office. Liam wondered if he was going to make a run for it with his little girl. Get away before Soran forcing this could blow his whole universe apart.

He leaned forward and held her eyes. He had no doubt what little he knew of her, that Annora Tessaro was a smart women. And a much fairer one than Soran. "I often find that when something or somebody only tells you half a story, its usually because people want it that way. But if I can fill in any blanks, go for it."

He wasn't sure he could. He had had the same experience as her on the one time he had been to that planet and arrived on the station after the initial excitement of the planet emerging and the Fae appearing on the station.

She addressed his first comment before anything else.
"I agree that pursuing legal action against the Ferengi would not go over well, but that's above my paygrade. If JAG wants to move forward then I'll assist in the investigation, but I don't see much coming of it. As for the Commander, I expect you be released in a few days once she has a chance to cool down. It's not like you made a scene on the promenade or something."

"It still wasn't necessary," Liam groused. "But at least I can use this to my advantage." He didn't comment further but if this did end up on the grand Negus's radar at least Qinee would know he had tried. Soran had tried to damage his standing with the difficult people he had to work with so her effectively handing him something he could use in the unfairness of it all was a double edged sword he supposed.

"I don't expect the reports to tell the whole story. I've read and written reports from events I've personally been involved in. There's gaps in those.
I'm just trying to get a feel for the bigger picture in all this."

"Annora," Liam said simply. "There is a shit storm brewing pure and simple. The Cardassians and Romulans are buddying up in their interests towards that planet and mark my words they will wind the Federation up so much to try threaten us to the point of war and discredit us in any move we make to keep it safe. It will start small. Little things to avert our attention for the other stuff. We have a man - old, pure capitalist and his xenophobic goons plotting. And then we have the nicer people going to be manipulated by the others in their plays to get what they want when they are desperate and only want a place to call home and be safe. They will get in too deep. An alien species more powerful than we have even had a glimpse at - and trust me when I tell you they "sense" something else entirely, a history long, deep and ancient. No formal open talks with them, and then we have management unwilling to bend and alienating our only allies in the process. Ryan is quite right about that. Not to mention we are alienating and keeping secrets from each other. In short - shit storm."

He didn't think he needed to point out to the security officer that the darker forces in all this didn't even need to divide and conquer, as they could just nicely sit back and watch as they fought amongst each other and imploded. He chuckled for a moment, thinking back to that night in the bar when she had teased him making out diplomacy and his job was the cushy one in Starfleet.

"Sounds to me like the Romulans are up to their usual tricks. Even before they attacked our Starbase, the Empire was trying to drive a wedge between Earth and her allies. They also pitted the Andorians and Vulcans against each other."

She thought back to what she learned about the history of the Cardassians.

"You would think the Cardassians would be wary of the Romulans. After-all they've opposed the Federation twice in recent history. The first ended in the creation of the DMZ and the Dominion War would have devastated them even without turning on the Dominion. Makes me wonder what they are being promised as part of this alliance."

Liam nodded with a slight smile. He was right. Annora was a smart woman. "Whatever it is its clearly worth it for them. Unless one of the them is doing the whole keep your friends close and enemies closer. If only there were a way to suss out what is going on. But for now I guess we just have to watch as it falls into play." At the mention of the Dominion he had a slight flash back to when they had moved to Betazed from Earth. It was just before the invasion and occupation. He had met his first Cardassian in that time.

There was also the question of having a Romulan CO on the station when the Romulans were seemingly acting contrary to the Federations' interests. However, that was a discussion for another time with people of higher rank.
"I'm sure Intel has a bit more information, but they aren't likely to share it with a couple of Lieutenants. If things do hit the fan over Pangaea, I'm sure we'll both get swept up in the initial wave."

"I'm sure we will," Liam agreed.
