Escape? As if.

640 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Pangaea (Wrap up)
Location: Verex III Safe House
Timeline: MD10 1609

While her agents seemed like chickens with their heads cut off, Debora Carlov was completely unconcerned with what had just taken place. She helped Lalena to her feet, happy to see the pretty Deltan would have no permanent injuries, ~Rianni didn't want to hurt her.~ She smiled, leading her to the chair across from Deb's desk, "Rest a minute, Lalena." She ordered, "Want some ice?"

"Wouldn't hurt." Lalena replied, then added, "Shouldn't we be getting after Monteros though, Colonel?"

"Who says we're not already after her?" Debora laughed, bringing up her console and holding still for retinal scan.

=A=Welcome, Colonel Carlov.=A= The console said, =A=Command protocols online.=A=

"Computer, begin tracking unit Carlov-7-XRay-Paul." She ordered, watching the computer begin to track her stolen padd, "You see, Lieutenant, I've known Rianni for over a decade, I knew she would go for my PADD if she got a chance. Plus, old habits being what they are, as a parent you learn to find ways to find your stuff when little hands misplace it. Hence, this...." She smiled, turning the console to Lalena, "Now we'll let Rianni take us straight to Torm."

"But if we knew where he was already...." Lalena began, confused.

"We don't have enough to compel a warrant for Torm yet." Debora shrugged, "But, we do have enough to arrest Brent Rubin, right?"

"Yes, Ma'am, we've got enough to put him away for life." Lalena said, "Why?"

"Because he's going to want to deal once he's in cuffs, especially if he thinks Torm might be about to become a non-issue." Debora continued, "And when he does he'll give up the entire organization to save his own skin." That was the one thing nobody ever seemed to understand, this thing was much bigger than Torm himself, though she would take some great personal satisfaction when Torm went down. Debora stood and stretched, Rianni had caught her bottom rib with that kick and it still stung, "You see, Lalena, if we were to arrive looking to capture Rianni and there happened to be something going on, well, we'd be compelled to investigate. Exigent circumstances and all that."

It hit Lalena then, her CO was looking for a loophole in the rules and 'Beautiful Lady' had given her the best one imaginable, since she expected anyplace the half Rommie went to turn into the OK Corral going by their shared experience. She smiled a little, then reminded the Colonel, "You do know Command is going to have a cow about all this rule bending, right?"

"Only if we don't come out of there with a lot of arrests, etcetera." Debora shrugged, she'd played fast and loose with regulations before, she knew command hated it, but if you made a big score they tended not to give a damn, "And if we come out of there with Torm, one way or another, that's all they're going to care about."

"Okay, so now what?" Lalena asked, sometimes the inner workings of Col. Carlov's mind were to esoteric for her.

"Get the rest of the team together, we're going to go hit Brent Rubin." Debora answered, holstering her own phaser pistol, intent on taking point, "Then we're going to take him to the Carpathia, he'll talk there." She knew even with Rianni's head start the Intrepid class Carpathia would run down Diana's Arrow easily, once they had their probable cause she could bring in the Marines and save Rianni's proverbial bacon. She watched with some deal of satisfaction as Lalena assembled the team that would arrest Brent Rubin, knowing that endgame was at hand and that Rianni would give her exactly the justification she needed to do it, ~Yeah, the pretty ones are always at least a little stupid.~ She thought with a smirk, ~And Rianni Monteros is beautiful.~
