Mission:
Doors of Perception
Location: Deck 400
Timeline: 16:37 hrs Md 06
So far it had been a quiet shift patrolling the promenade. The recent attacks aside, DS5 wasn’t any more dangerous than any other major Federation space station. It was larger than say, DS9, but when you took population into account crime levels weren’t significantly higher.
The individual patrols purposely covered the same areas of the station each time they went out. This allowed both the security teams and the residents to become familiar with each other. For the residents it helped them see Starfleet as someone who could be trusted. For the security teams, by knowing how things should be on the Promenade, it helped them know when things were out of the ordinary. While they patrolled the same areas of the Station, the exact route was varied in attempt to keep the criminal element from predicting when Security would be absent.
The team was currently walking through an area filled with restaurants known as ‘Gourmet Alley.’ It was still early enough that the dinner crowd was just starting to trickle in. A third of the way down, the team stopped at the entrance to ‘Hogan’s Hoagies’. Crewman Licalar stared at the sign with a quizzical look.
“What’s a hoagie?”
“Hoagie, hero, grinder, po’boy, submarine sandwich...”
A deep voice answered from the establishment.
A human with short red hair walked towards the front counter.
“The most common name is a sub, however I like the alliteration of Hogan’s Hoagies.
The man smiled when he saw the security team.
“Chief, I see you convinced them to let you out of the office Miss Grozier, nice to see you as well.”
He looked over at Licalar.
“I haven’t seen you before, you must be the new guy. Welcome to DS5. I’m Saul Hogan. Owner and operator of this restaurant. The Chief’s a good man to follow around. Stick with him and you’ll learn a lot.”
Moving over to shake the Bolian’s hand, he explained himself.
“When we were both younger, the Chief and I served together in Starfleet. I left the Service while he stayed in. A few years ago I expressed interest in opening a sandwich shop somewhere, and he suggested DS5.”
Saul motioned to the surroundings.
“And the rest, as they say, is History. Feel free to look at the menu and let Pauer know what you want. I always offer a discount to Starfleet when they’re on duty.”

...” I hear you guys raided the Raddon Corporation yesterday. If you ask me, it’s about time.”
Walter nodded.
“We served a warrant related to illegal operations on Pangea that were connected to the Corporation, yes.”
“Come on Chief.” Saul pleaded. “I can get that much from the news feed. Was hoping for more than that.”
“There’s really not much to say beyond that. We had evidence linking them to an illegal operation on the planet. Command signed off on a warrant, and we carried it out. From a security standpoint, everything was by the book. They let us into the offices and we left with the desired information. The corporation wasn’t happy about it, but we didn’t have to force our way in.”
Setting down his sandwich, Walter focused on the conversation.
“Why, what have you heard?”
Saul shrugged.
“Pretty much what you’ve told me, just want to be able to reconcile scuttlebutt with reality. Textbook or not, such an activity is bound to stir up some folks. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know if I hear anything credible.”
With a smile, Walter picked his sandwich back up.
“Glad to hear it.”
