Antos was milling about the small garden he had planted outside his shack. This was the fourth time he had replanted this year and the plants were finally making progress. He hoped this time nothing would happen to the small garden. It seemed that every time he finished, an angry Cardassian nobody, would come along and stomp out his hard work. Each time this happened, Antos would just smile and stay silent. He knew the Prophets had a plan for him, and getting himself killed by an angry Cardassian was not part of it.
He watered the area until it was well soaked, then he stood up to admire his work.
His attention quickly turned from his work to his children, who played nearby in a small clearing. His four were the easiest to pick out. They were the only Bajoran children in the entire camp who had Blonde hair. A trait they inherited from neither Antos nor Nekaya. The parents chose to name all four children for their favorite flowers or plants, a reminder of the beauty and joy that is possible even in the darkest of times. Antose moved to the side of the clearing to watch his children play.
He watched Mekat, the second oldest but the only boy, treat all of his sisters like they were younger than he was and he needed to take care of them. Even at a young age, Mekat was very protective.
Then there was Leyana, the oldest. She was always trying to dictate what game the siblings should play and what role everyone should have in it. It rarely worked, but Antos could tell, his eldest daughter was going to be leader some day.
Katana and Jaxa were very close in age, and very close with each other. They could often be spotted together, always talking. Always making things. they had fantastic imaginations, and Antos couldn't be happier
Antos observed his children for some time. "Children," he called to them, "It's time for our evening prayer and meal."
The children all ran for their father, and embraced him quickly before racing to the family's hut.
Antos turned just in time to see his four beauties running past his small garden plot. 'Blessed be the Prophets,' He thought I have two growing gardens. '
The Bajoran man walked along the short dirt road to the family dwelling, and entered the cramped one room building. He could not help but smile at the sight that greeted him.
All four of his children were knelt by the low table, their heads tilted downwards, and a blessing being echoed between them.
'I think this garden is m favorite.' Antos thought, moving to join his children.
