Cara caught up to T'mpest, and walked beside her when permitted. "What are your perceptions where Vex is concerned. Or do you wish to talk about it tomorrow?" As she walked alongside T'mpest, Cara would glance at the booths that were there, making a mental list of exploring them at a later time.
"Intelligent, well-spoken, astute. I am inclined to welcome him to stay, but I want to review his personnel file first." She raised an eyebrow. "You?"
"I find that about him as well. Also, he has a subtle humor. It also seems to me that he's been through a rough patch, and as indicated in our conversation, he wants a place to possibly settle at some point. And you are rather astute as well, what was going on wasn't lost on you. I do plan on doing a bit more information gathering tonight when I meet with him." a moment of quiet as they strolled along, Cara breaking the silence. "We've not spoken much about each other's personal backgrounds. I will confess I am not perfect and I do make mistakes. I do hope that the team up between us will be beneficial to us both."
"None of us are perfect--although I know a few Vulcans who try." T'mpest smiled at that. She wasn't sure if it was fortune or not to have the parents she did. Her father was incredibly patient with her mother. She had no doubt he loved her, even though he was not very demonstrative.
Cara had an amused expression as she thought of a couple of Vulcan's she'd come across. "I come from the union of a human father and a Betazoid mother. Both of them are rather unique. Mother was a ship's counselor, father was security."
"That seems rather normal. Starfleet officers often marry each other." T'mpest shrugged. "Or is there something else that makes them unique?"
"Maybe not." Cara shrugged, "I just found them unique, maybe because they are my parents. They've had to face some hardships like others have done. Like losing their oldest son who was on a mission for Intelligence."
"That is always difficult. We are informed of the dangers involved in working for Starfleet, but that does not make it easier when someone we care about dies. Each case is unique, as is each person. I have always felt that loving someone is worth the risk."
"That is so very true, loving someone is truly worth it, even if it is for a short time. It hurts when the person leaves but, still the little time they were a part of a life it makes a difference. That is what I believe. Have you lost someone, who you loved?" Cara pausing to look at T'mpest once more.
"Yes. He and his team were sent on a covert mission. He never returned. Not to me, anyway. As far as I know, he still works for intelligence." Her heart had healed and while she still had questions, she accepted that he chose a different path.
"That is rough when that happens, I've had a few who had chosen to leave, for some reason or other. At times I feel cursed, in the relationship department. Oh well such is life, in its twists and turns. One must move forward and move on."
"Yes indeed. This is almost a new beginning as this is my first assignment on a station."
"This is the first rather large station to be on. The others have been different in and of themselves. One was carved out of an asteroid, was used by an Ancient race. We worked rather hard in refitting it, and made it self-sufficient and like a small city, with small farms." Cara remembering the work that had taken place, everyone pitching in. "Then there was Poseidon Station and now here I am. It is a new start for me, as well."
"I read about Aquil, but never had a chance to visit it." T'mpest shook her head. "Too many places to visit and too little time."
"Now it’s been a few days since we've found out this is our permanent assignment now, what do you think about this turn of events? I for one was surprised, but it’s not an unpleasant one. I feel that there is so much more to be learned and experienced." Cara having a more settled feeling.
"About Vex or staying on the station?" T'mpest raised an eyebrow. "For the station, I admit I am pleased that our stay here has been extended. There is much to learn, and much to be done. Perhaps I even need to be here as well."
"Yes there needs to be more learned about him. The station, both of us being here. At times I feel that I'll get pulled to another place or even to another time. That has happened to me before." Cara resuming her walking.
"Yes. To me as well."
"I take it you've done some time travel as well. On purpose or accidentally? I found myself back in the 1800's beneath a palm tree, and met a man who was a lieutenant on a ship. Thankfully I wasn't in uniform otherwise it would have caused possibly a time paradox."
"True. Mine was on purpose--but not my doing. My ship was pulled thirty years into the future. It took us almost a year to find a way back. I think that is part of the reason I was assigned here."
"And what you just mentioned, it is becoming even more clear as to why I am here as well, having had experience with portals, well more like an Ancient Way Station with doorways into other places. There still needs to be some more studies on it. Whenever it appears again." Cara said musingly.
"I will leave things like that to temporal science," T'mpest said, pausing to look at a window display. "My understanding is that this situation is unique."
"I would like to meet with those in temporal science. Hopefully there will be a chance for that to happen." Cara paused to look at the window display as well. She was aware of their reflection in the glass, then noted that some passersby glanced in their direction as well. "There are those who seem to be interested in us. Has word gotten around as to the new command team? And there are several men looking at us too."
"I would not be surprised. Information on a station travels as quickly as it does in a village. If we come back to the promenade to simply walk around, we should do so as civilians." As for talking the temporal science people, T'mpest would definitely see what she could do.
"I agree, we sort of stick out ." Cara giving a laugh. "Well, I should be going to go get ready for my information gathering. I have no idea how things will go in the conversation with Vex. and I do want to know why he goes by that name unless he was told he was rather vexing."
"Just enjoy your evening. I will look into his Starfleet record and we can ask him questions when we meet with him again." T'mpest didn't think there would be any problems and so didn't think it necessary for Cara to do more than enjoy her evening.
"Sounds good, and enjoy your evening as well," Cara giving a bit of a smile as she went on her way. An evening with someone. It will be fun, she hoped, but she will be careful nonetheless.
