Mission: Fallout
Location: Ferengi Courier near station
Timeline: MD 3/1830

The Ferengi diplomatic cruiser Yazant maintained position with the rest of the ships awaiting docking instructions from Deep Space Five. As a diplomatic vessel, it could have asserted its priority in the line, but instead remained at station. Behind the small bridge was a crew mess and recreation area where the ship’s captain, Tock, sat with four of the ambassador’s security detail playing tongo. Tock threw down his cards in disgust and glared at one of the guards.

“You sure you didn’t rig the wheel?” he demanded, calculating just how much he had lost that hand. His luck was going poorly!

“If you can’t afford to pay, you can’t afford to play,” grinned the other Ferengi as he gleefully gathered up his winnings. “But I will take an IOU.”

“Bah!” Tock got up and retreated into the bridge cabin where a hail was sounding.

“Ferengi vessel Yazant, would you like to begin docking procedures?” came the harried voice of the station flight control operator.

Tock sighed and slapped the comm for the thousandth time. “Not just yet, Station,” he said. “Let someone else come in.”

Slapping the comm closed, Tock returned to the table. “How long does it take to get a few measly strips of latinum or transfer a few credits?” he grumbled. “I’m already getting cheated out of the full price.” He eyed his stack of latinum suspiciously. Had someone snuck a few strips from his pile while he wasn’t looking?

Farther back in the ship, Qinee sat at the head of the large table in the diplomatic dining room She sipped her slime tea as she gazed down the long table at the chattering score of teenagers of varying species. To her right, Nazl gulped down a large Slug-O Cola and gave a loud belch. To her left, Aleczandra made a disgusted face and picked at her food, trying not to look at Nazl and remember giving him oomox. Behind the ambassador stood the fifth member of her security detail, looking rather bored.

“I trust the food is satisfactory?” Qinee smiled down the table.

“’s great!” one Bolian boy mumbled around a mouthful of pizza loaded with superhot Klingon peppers, which didn’t seem to faze the alien in the least. The table was spread with a variety of foods requested by Aleczandra’s classmates.

“When do you think we’ll be able to go home?” one girl asked timidly.

Nazl looked about ready to make some snide reply when he yelped in pain as Qinee kicked him under the table.

Aleczandra grinned.

“There are a lot of ships, and the station was badly damaged,” Qinee explained. “We just want to make sure it is safe. You will be home soon. We have contacted all your parents,” she said. “If you need to talk to them, I can make arrangements.”

A few of the kids nodded. Most seemed more than fine with the extended holiday from school.

“They’re getting a bit of cabin fever,” Aleczandra told the ambassador.

Qinee nodded. “Understandable,” she said. “Perhaps we can organize something…physical for them to do? The cargo hold should be big enough.”

Zandra nodded. “I can replicate a basketball or something,” she mused.

Qinee lifted her voice again. “After dinner I thought we could watch a holo-vid,” she told the kids. “I downloaded the latest Galaxy Wars,” she told them.

The kids stared. “That’s not even out yet!” one exclaimed.

Qinee grinned. “Let us just say I know a guy.” She giggled.

“Let’s just hope it’s better than the prequels!”

“I kind of liked Bar-Jar Tinks…” said one girl timidly, to the derision of her classmates.

She threw a Trillius sprout at her biggest tormentor, which bounced off his forehead.

“Oh, it’s on!”

Aleczandra shrieked and ducked, laughing, as the food fight commenced.

Nazl just shrieked. “Shoot them! Shoot them!” he exclaimed to the security guard as he was pelted with mashed potatoes.

Qinee giggled and picked up her serving of snail gelatin and threw it at Nazl.
