Mission: Si vis pacem, para bellum
Location: Commander's Office

"I was given assurances that reinforcements would arrive!" Hydel Turvan said as he slammed his fist onto the desk before him. Although his voice was loud enough to fill the room and cause several oranments on the desk to rattle, it did little to change the face of the Cardassian politician that appeared before him via a holographic projection.

Councilwoman Jill Ora Madred maintained her unmoving expression which was devoice of any emotion. She listened to Turvan vent for several more moments before interupting him. "Yes, just as we were given assurances that this jaunt into Federation territory would have been resolved by now and the portals would be in our control" She said.

"But instead, it has been 6 weeks and you have produced little to no results, Hydel." The councilwoman said with an obvious edge to her voice. "I am not in the habit of rewarding incompotence Hydel." She said. There was something unnerving about the way she would end her sentence with the utterance of his first name. As if it was the stinging tip of a scorpion's tail.

"I have not failed, not by any stretch of the imagination!" Turvan shout back defensively. "We swifty overcame Federation defenses and secured the planet as well as Deep Space 5!" He replied. "That is a significant accomplishment by any measurement." He added. He chose not to bring up the significant number of ships, fighters, and individual Soldiers that were loss in the engagement. Those were losses that his people had tried their best to deal with; however, it had not been easy. (**)

". . .and yet you still do not control the portals." Councilwoman Madred said piercingly.

Legate Turvan allowed the statement to linger in the air for several moments as he took a deep breathe to gather himself. "We have made significant progress in understanding the langu---"

"The portals were all that mattered, Hydel. I did not authorize this operation so that you could engage in some convoulted research expedition." She said, interupting his undoubtedly well-prepared response. "The fact that those portals have not been unlocked has made this entire mission appear to be an exercise in futility." She said.

"Yes, and it will become an absolute futile exercise unless you authorize the 975th tar'elkor (battle wing) to depart from the Zeta Serpentis sector and reinforce our lines." He said. "For the time being, we are relying upon the Xi'Cadians to provide shipments of supplies and other resources, but their vessels were not designed to navigate the Transphasic warp system as well as Cardassian vessels. They are limited in the number of vessels that can make the necessary engagements." Turvan reported.

"We need the 975th to buttress our forces and to hold what we have earned on this battlefield." He said. "The longer we delay, the weaker our forces become." He implored.

"The Federation President herself has declared war on Cardassia because of this. WE have used every advantage in our arsenal to stave off a full-scale invasion. From what I've seen so far from you I'm inclined to believe that the 975th would be better utilized in the defense of Cardassian space rather than being thrown away on this useless ball of dust." She said bitterly.

Legate Turvan bit his lip to keep from responding with an honest, yet explicit, remark.

"You have 10 days to get results and unlock the portals, otherwise. . ." She chose not to finish the last part of her sentence and allowed him to decide for himself what she meant.

"Councilwoman Madred out." She said as her image disappeared.
