Yolanthe continued to stare at the dark screen for several minutes the deep purple she had been when the call with Tharek started slowly giving way to the dull matt grey of carbon steel.

"The Order have given me a new assignment. Its extensive. I don't foresee returning to DS5."

And that was how it ended. Her first relationship with a man that she had actually chosen for herself. She just hadn't realised the depth of her feelings for him until she'd seen how dark a purple she'd gone when he had first appeared on the comm.

"For how long?"
"I can't say. Its possible, but..."

What he hadn't said, what she hadn't needed him to say. Tharek wasn't coming back.

"I'm sorry we didn't get to say goodbye properly. But I wasn't fully briefed until I got here."

They had spent the night together before he was recalled, never knowing it would most likely be their last. And she still hadn't told him. Amongst her own kind, you never needed to say how you felt, it was there all over your body.

"I've told the consulate to give you your things."

It was hardly an issue. Despite the fact she had slept in the consulate almost every night since Klia's death, she only really had her toiletries and a change of clothes there. She hadn't tried to move in.

"I've told them to include the jackal blade you admired so much that first night."

That had made her smile. It had been an exhilarating night, complete with half naked dash along the promenade when she left and couldn't find her clothes. She glanced to her trophy wall, thinking where she'd display it. She wouldn't need a token to remember him, but she was pleased he'd thought of her. And it was a beautiful knife.

"Goodbye, my dear. I will always love you."

Yolanthe stared into the darkened room. It was silent; the box had closed hours ago, and the promenade wouldn't be properly open for hours to come. "I love you too, Tharek."
