Mission: Si vis pacem, para bellum
Location: Pangaea Surface/ Entrance to Poral Complex
Timeline: MD 7 1000

Legate Hydel Turvan stood back and as the Heavy Earth-moving equipment worked to remove the large boulders and collapses remains of the entrance to the complex for the portals. The Cardassian forces on the planet surface had access to the powerful vehicles due to their use in constructing the original research facilities on the planet.

Now that the Cardassians had succesfully seized complete control of the planet, they were being utilized to clear out the extensive rubble that had been left behind by the retreating Starfleet forces. The retreating Marines had been thorough in their sabotaging of the portal entrance with explosives.

"Status report" Legate Turvan said to his Ground Commander Gul Meran Denat. It had been over two days since the 2-126th Engineering Battalion had begun excavation operations.

Gul Denat looked over his shoulder as he heard the Legate's voice. He stood up and brought up a display of a map that showed the entire complex. Gul Denat zoomed in on the entrance. "This is where the entrance was located prior to Starfleet's destructive actions. So far we have been able to dig through approximately 216 meters of high-grade iron ferrite." The Commander reported.

"It has been two days, Meran, why haven't we breached the cavern and made our way towards the different portals. We should have had our Scientists utilizing the portals by now." Legate Turvan said impatiently as he paced around the room.

Gul Denat said in a heavy tone. "The planet's surface is made up of a very dense material that requires more manpower and equipment." He switched displays and showed the Cardassian and Xi'Cadian fleets. "If we could divert the Rising Glory and the Devout Messenger from the Xi'Cadians, then we could use them to penetrate the debris much faster." Gul Denat said.

“Once we have penetrated the cavern, the 2-313 Security Battalion will enter and immediately secure the network of caves against any remaining Starfleet fighters or any traps they had left behind." Gul Denat mentioned. He was certain that there would be a handful of fighters still behind, but he was even more certain that they would plant more explosive devices to cause ore problems for the Cardassians as they secured the immediate area.

“You really believe they would plant explosives that could actually damage or destroy the portals?” Turvan responded.

“Sir, they are desperate, wounded animals.” The Ground Commander responded. “Anything is possible with Starfleet. More importantly, we cannot risk giving them any opportunities to surprise us.” He continued.

“Fine, contact Gul Vashur and have her divert the two vessels to help with excavation efforts immediately.” Legate Turvan consented.

“The portals are the only things that matter. They are what we came here for nothing else. Do I make myself clear?” The Cardassian leader demanded while staring into Gul Denat’s eye.

“I understand completely, Hydel. The troopers who have given their lives to this mission understand it even more so that’s either one of us.” The Cardassian Gul said in response.

“Good, carry on. I have matters to attend to on board the station.” He said as he looked at his Padd and confirmed that his transport was ready for him.

“I’m leaving you in charge here while I’m away. Contact me if needed.” He said with a firm slap on Gul Denat’s shoulder as he turned and left with his security detail in tow.
