An ensign poked his head into Jason’s door from the outer office. “Um, sir, I have Commodore Pierce here to see you,” the young man said nervously. “He doesn’t have an appointment.”

"Relax, Ensign,” Jason said with a smile. "I think an opening just came up in my schedule."

Jason went out to where the Commodore was and said, "Lieutenant Jason Haines, sir. Welcome to the Intelligence Department. I understand you would like to speak with me. Would you care to meet in my office or in a different location?"

As he waited for the Commodore's response, he wondered if the man was here because of Jason's interactions with Raddon. Given that Jason was a nobody in the ranks of Starfleet at this point in his career, that was the reason that seemed most likely.

"Lieutenant Haines,” Artemis said in a light Australian accent, giving Jason a pleasant smile. “Your office would be just fine,” he told the young man. He followed Jason to the office and a quick eye glanced around the room to see what he could gather about the young man, before they returned to Jason. “Good morning. I hope I am not interrupting. I just thought that while I was on station I would stop by and introduce myself. With the situation developing in Xi’Cadia, I figure we may be working together more closely.”

There wasn't much in the office for the Commodore to see. Jason hadn't gotten his stuff from his uncle, so the office was quite Spartan.

"As far as interrupting, sir,", Jason replied, "there is so much going on here that needs intel attention that a fly farting would be interrupting, but your interruption is far more important than a fly fart. Can I get you something to drink?"

“Water is fine, thank you, mate,” Artemis said. “I imagine you do have quite a bit on your plate, so I won’t take up too much of your time,” he assured Jason.

"I am glad there are more Intelligence resources nearby, as Xi'Cadia is indeed on our radar here," Jason replied, setting down drinks.

“Yes, Xi’cadia,” Pierce said, taking a seat. He sipped his water. “I head out there in a few hours with the Federation delegation. It is quite the cock up.”

Jason sat and said, "Although we are stretched at the moment, my team will do what we can to assist. What do you need?"

“A better understanding of the situation on the ground,” Pierce said. “How could this coup have happened so fast? And where any Raddon and Federation personnel are being held. I might be able to get that from Raddon, if he cooperates.”

"My team has been trying to get intel since things started, but unfortunately we were caught with our pants down and didn't have any of our assets focused there," Jason replied. "Although I am sure they would want their resources retrieved, I am not sure what help they will give us, seeing how we served them a warrant yesterday given their apparent attempt at tampering with the portals."

Artemis raised an eyebrow. “I hadn’t heard that,” he said. “What interest do they have in the portals?” Pierce had his own interest in the portals, but he could simply ask to see them. “Has there been any contact from representatives of the deposed government?”

"Who wouldn't have interest in the portals?" Jason replied. "Whether one is a scientist, entrepreneur, or even a wannabe dictator, the portals have all sorts of possibilities. As far as the Xi'Cadians, no, we have not heard from anyone. That's not surprising though. One of the first rules of a take-over, limit communication."

“That is true,” Artemis said. “We’ll see what they have to say at this summit. If you do hear any chatter, would you let me know?” he asked Jason. “I should probably let you get back to work and not take up any more of your time. But if you ever need anything, let me know.”

"Of course I will let you know, sir," Jason replied. "After all, that's what we are here for. And our offices are always open if you need anything as well. It was a pleasure meeting you."

Jason stuck out his hand.

Artemis shook Jason’s hand firmly and then left to return to the Nemesis and his trip to Xi’Cadia.
