Summary

The Radiance of the Stars and her sister-ship, the Cosmic Paradise, were built simultaneously by Vorcia Heavy Industries, a Rigellian commercial shipbuilder famous for other notable vessels such as the Astral Pioneer, the Fera Envoy, and the Maiden of Kymni. Consruction was financed by Praz Holdings, the owner and operator of the vessels.

Upon putting these ships into service Praz Holdings immediately ran into trouble. The commercial cruise industry in the Alpha Quadrant is fiercely competitive, and Praz Holdings had trouble finding enough passengers to fill its routes to "hot spot" destinations such as Risa and Pacifica. Matters became worse when the Cosmic Paradise was impounded by the Rigellian Finance Guild on behalf of Vorcia Heavy Industries. Praz Holdings had fallen behind on its contract payments.

Desperate to raise revenue, DaiMon Praz, the President of Praz Holdings decided to court investors by having a private cruise on the Radiance of the Stars. The investors, however, were nothing more than assorted gangsters, loan sharks, and other low-lifes with plenty of latinum but few scruples. It could have worked if the ship hadn't suffered an engine room explosion that left thirteen dead and sixty-eight wounded.

The Radiance of the Stars was towed by the USS Helios to Deep Space Five. Once there DaiMon Praz managed to get the ship into Dyson Yards for repair work.
