Personal History | Personal History Tera was born in the last years of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. Her father was a collaborationist with the occupiers and known to infiltrate Resistance cells and betray them to the Cardassians. When his wife was killed – and his daughter nearly so – he sought protection with friends in the Occupation. When the Cardassians withdrew, he begged to be taken with them. A sympathetic gul accepted and Tera and her father were evacuated along with other collaborationists. It was the last time Tera would see Bajor. It wasn’t as if the Cardassians particularly wanted the Bajorans. They were put on a planet in the Demilitarized Zone that had once contained a failed Cardassian colony. The living conditions weren’t much better, and many of the Bajorans died of exposure or disease. Some managed to scrape out a living on the harsh world, however. Tera’s father died when the Dominion occupied the world as a forward outpost in the war against the Alpha Quadrant and essentially enslaved the population. Tera worked hard for the Dominion during the war until the planet was liberated by the Federation. The remaining refugees were evacuated off-planet, but Federation plans to resettle the Bajorans on Bajor were met by harsh rejection by Kai Winn and the Bajoran Provisional Government. With no home, Tera eventually ended up on Deep Space Five. Always handy with crafts, she began making jewelry to make a living, aided by Tianys Dalav’ni, a Rowa’ni owner of a club that took an interest in a fellow refugee. Using Rowa’ni contacts on Bajor, Tera expanded to include other traditional Bajoran hand-made products in her shop, focusing on giving a living to hard working Bajoran artisans that might not otherwise have income. |
